LPG Auto Gas as Clean Fuel Alternative

Filed in: LPG Add comments

LPG scores over traditional sources of automobile fuel considerably both in terms of eco-friendliness and also commercial viability. Modern cars are built with an efficient system that can run by burning traditional forms of fuel. LPG Auto Gas

When manufacturers of these super efficient automobiles are placed with the question of environmental friendliness; they struggle to find an answer to reduce amount of carbon foot print these automobiles are creating. Even with catalytic converters which do reduce some of the carbon footprint, they inherent damage that is done to extract the platinum that is used to build these converters outweighs the advantage that is obtained from them.

Until and unless the time some one invents a catalyst that can simply split the composites of water into hydrogen and oxygen and thereby providing the cleanest and the purest form of fuel energy we will have to make do with something that is the next best both in terms of environmentally clean and commercially viable energy.

Emission rates in LPG

LPG is mostly composed of propane and butane which reaches the combustion chamber in a pure form, burning uniformly and also at a high octane, thus this fuel is highly combustion efficient. Moreover, LPG does not create a high amount of carbon dioxide. It reduces the carbon dioxide emission by 10-15%. Carbon dioxide is one of the main green house gases thus it evidently reduces the green house effect to a large extent.

Auto LPG also reduces significantly the emission of Sulphur dioxide. It also reduces nitrous oxide emissions by a significant margin of 80%. It also reduces particle emission to a level of zero.

LPG can; if opted by most vehicle users; over the years reduce the harmful effects caused by auto emission. In today’s world where most of the European countries and the US are vying for reversing the terrible effects of the green house gases; LPG is the best option to bolster that effort.

Storage and inherent risks of using LPG

In terms of commercial viability also LPG scores over both Petrol and CNG. LPG is easily transferable and can be stored in stand alone infrastructure. The storage and dispensing equipments can be easily operated. In most European countries LPG costs cheapest compared to CNG and Petrol. Unlike in CNG where costly pipes are to be fitted to transfer the gas; this is not the case with LPG.

As far as safety is concerned it as safe as cooking LPG. Any combustible fuel needs inherent safety to be undertaken while using it. Much like cooking gas which is used in our day to day use at home for cooking or heating purposes, safety has to be taken to use it without any accidents. However in the case of LPG the gas is easily dispersed into the air and it needs a compressed dense quantity with a relative temperature of 400 – 500 degree centigrade to explode or catch fire. That’s the reason why after turning the knob one has to hit the switch 2-3 times in order to catch fire. Further stringent safety norms as laid by the Bureau of Indian Standards are followed to manufacture and quality test the Retro Fitting equipments to see if they are fit to be used in an automobile.
